Rocky Mountain Listening Room Our 48th Season is due to kick off in September, 2022. We hope to return to online ticket sales in September. Concerts are at 8pm, with doors opening at 7.30pm.

A fresh approach to live music, The Rocky Mountain Listening Room concert series pairs hand-selected spotlight & emerging songwriters with established and renowned artists for a night of mentorship, collaboration, and performance. We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all performers, audience and volunteers. For May 13th we will be accepting donations of cash or cheque

at the door, plus cash payments for refreshments. General Information:
Our concert season normally runs from September to May. Our concerts take place at the Rosedale Community Association Hall, 901 11 Ave NW, Calgary. Each night begins with a set by either our house band, Horizon Ridge, or by another fine local band with a strong connection to the Rocky. Horizon Ridge members are Dianne Quinton on vocals, guitar, banjo and bass; Peter May on vocals, bass, guitar and harmonica; Steve Goodchild on vocals, guitar, mandolin, banjo, dobro and mandocello, and Helen Goodchild on vocals, fiddle, keyboard and bass. All four are Rocky volunteers - Steve is also Artistic Director and Helen is Treasurer. Their sets are lively and fun - guaranteed to set the mood for a great evening! During the rest of the evening we normally present two sets featuring various combinations of touring performers and/or some more of the great local talent available in the Calgary area. We hope you will enjoy the performers we have selected.

We are on a mission to lift up Alberta (& surrounds) talent and give artists a real platform to reach the next stage of their music careers.

The Rocky Mountain Listening Room is looking for spotlight songwriters for our 2026/27 season.

Spotlight Artists perform three original songs in an intimate, writers-in-the-round format alongside one of our featured headliners before their main set.

This season’s headliners include: • John Hewitt • Von Bieker • Kate Stevens • Burnstick • Kaeley Jade • Suzie Vinnick • Jeffery Straker

WHAT YOU GET
* $100 honorarium per act
* Consideration for our end-of-season Spotlight Artist package—designed to launch you to the next level with studio recording time, industry consultations, photography (discount), media exposure, and performance opportunities (one person awarded)

HOW TO SUBMIT Send an email to [email protected] with:
* A short bio (100 words max)
* One simple cell-phone video of you performing an original song live
* Your social media links (and website, if applicable)
* The town or city (and province if not in AB) where you live & contact details

Solo artists and duos are welcome.

Applications are open!

Spaces are strictly limited and will be filled on a rolling basis as we find the right fit for each show. Get your application in early so your Music is reviewed before the shows fill up. Only successful applicants will be contacted.

7 workshops for the price of 6 when grabbing a season ticket! Or single workshop tickets now available. These take place at a different location to the concerts. (Songwriting workshops take place at Dalhousie Community Centre). Etransfer directly or purchase through eventbrite.

These workshops run alongside our concert series artists for September - November then again January - April. Each workshop is 2 hours, focusing on a specific niche of each songwriter. They take place the night prior to the concert (thurs). Come and join a welcoming and supportive songwriter community!

2026-2027 Rocky Mountain Listening Room CONCERT season passes are now available - this is the way to secure your seat this season! Most of our shows were sold out last season, or close to sold out, so make sure you don’t miss out!

We have 9 shows, 7 of which feature our songwriter headliners hosting a spotlight artist in-the-round opener. We will also have 7 curated songwriting workshops will be announced later this week! (Combo season passes will be available) (from the )

Note: our chosen spotlight artist winner Jason Andrew Griffith from 2025/26 season will now perform in the following season. His prize Home Routes tour conflicts with the date we had saved and we can’t wait to hear alllllll about it!!!

And the results are in! We had some incredibly talented spotlight artists this season. Thank you to each and everyone one of you for bringing something special to our first season in this format - you set the bar high! A huge congratulations to for being selected as the recipient of the 2025-2026 Spotlight Artist Award at the .listeningroom and special mention to runner up Toni Vere.

Jason wins a huge career builder prize including a tour with , recording time with , $1500 marketing consulting with Laura Dunkley, 60-minutes consultations with Vel Omazic, Carla Hackman and Stephanie Hutchinson, $250 as well as a season pass for the Rocky Mountain Listening Room and Workshops and a set at next seasons Alberta Night in May 2027.

Runner up Toni Vere also received recording time courtesy of Rocky Mountain Listening Room for a demo with .

Thanks to Tom Coxworth from Folk Routes for joining us for the evening to make the announcements and say some great words about the importance of community in music and Alberta.

Spotlight artists will happen again next season by invite or apply through our website. Spotlight Artist selection was a combination of audience support and board analysis based on standard criteria including performance, songwriting, musicianship, banter, promotion/marketing, communication, and community.
