Your Community Centre, what’s going on over there?
The Cedarbrae Community Centre, that big building in the middle of the neighbourhood, everybody drives or walks by regularly, but what’s really happening in there? Many Cedarbrae residents haven’t yet come in to check it out and don’t know all the many events programs and activities going on.
There’s a gym, event rooms for rent, offices, a $1 book sale, community garden beds for the summer and a rink for the winter. There a super active senior’s group, all manner of classes, Girl Guides, ball hockey, volleyball, basketball, dance classes, sport for the blind, community evens large and small and of course, daily sessions of our pickleball program.
If none of those options interest you, maybe you’d like to pop in and check out our current volunteer opportunities, or just stop in to say ‘hello’! Some residents use us as a public place for meeting up for things like Facebook Marketplace transactions, some to run into when their child needs a washroom, right now! It’s the neighbourhood place to participate in a blood drive, election, Community Clean-up or celebration. It belongs to all of Cedarbrae, that’s you too!
Ultimately what’s going on at a Community Centre is up to the residents of that Community. The more involved the people of Cedarbrae are in our community, the more active our Centre will be. It’s your building Cedarbrae, get involved so we can make sure it’s a building filled with purpose and a strong representation of what we want our neighbourhood to be.

Community Cleanup events provide an opportunity for Calgarians to dispose of items that do not fit in their waste and recycling carts. They also support community residents who do not have access to cart service. Community Clean Up schedules will be announced each season as they start.

Volunteers are the heartbeat of our Community Association. We want to recognize how much our volunteers are appreciated and valued. We would like to honour a long time volunteer Joyce! Joyce has become indispensable to our Community Centre’s operations. From our biggest occasions to day-to-day volunteering, all the way to her past service as Community President, Joyce is among the most relied on volunteers Cedarbrae has.
Joyce has been able to bring together disparate voices and ideas to produce a cohesive team of volunteers, bringing big ideas to life. She continues to encourage more of us to volunteer our time, skills and hands, to make lighter work of all the many projects happening at our Community Centre.
Thank you Joyce for all that you have done and continue to do!
