♾️🧶 Metis Sash Weaving - the easy way October 10 & 11 in Edmonton - Everyone Welcome

We're launching our new easy weaving method in this workshop, designed to facilitate sash creation for everybody in Fern's new barrier-free studio space. ♿️🧒👵

Join us to design and create a custom Metis Sash, with colors and patterns to represent your family, community or organization!

Kalyn will lead you through the design, warping, & weaving processes to create your custom sash from start to finish.

We'll work with small, artisanal hand looms and specially created weaving tools that are simple to set up and use.

Start with an overview of the culture and history of the Metis sash and gain a better understanding of the Metis and our sash.

Weaving takes place on a hand loom with custom tools. The loom can be used to create more sashes and other fabrics up to 8 inches wide.

All materials provided including fibre, printed patterns, and your very own loom to take home.

Wolf Willow & the Metis Rosary — October 9 & 10 - Fern's School of Textile Craft

Harvest and process wolf willow together in a good way; hear teachings from this cornerstone prairie species while using all parts of our harvest. You’ll come to know this special plant and the many ways it has been woven into Métis culture. Take home samples, recipes, and teachings for a safe and responsible relationship with the Silverberry plant.

Ever feel like you're not getting enough done - then go through your phone gallery? 2025 was a slower pace for me, yet still a full year of crafts, new projects, community, learning opportunities and many beautiful moments I'll treasure.

Chi maarsi for all the teachers, students, elders and new friends I've had the privilege of meeting and learning from this year. Your love, kindness and creativity is always a point of gratitude in my prayers.
