Two hundred years on, Beethoven’s music still demands to be felt.

Beethoven 200 is a powerful world premiere that marks two centuries since the death of one of history’s most influential composers. Created by Artistic Director Francesco Ventriglia, this new work engages with Beethoven’s music not as a monument, but as a living force — charged with emotion, conflict, and humanity.

Through bold, contemporary movement, the ballet explores the intensity and depth embedded in Beethoven’s compositions, revealing their enduring capacity to speak across time. Performed with live orchestral accompaniment by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the score’s scale and dramatic drive are brought vividly to life on stage.

Both a tribute and a transformation, Beethoven 200 invites audiences to experience the composer’s legacy through a shared language of music and movement.

An outward journey that becomes an inward reckoning.

In Peer Gynt, Alberta Ballet presents a bold world premiere that transforms a legendary literary tale into a sweeping work of dance. Created by Artistic Director Francesco Ventriglia, this new ballet follows a restless protagonist driven by ambition, fantasy, and the search for meaning, as his life unfolds across shifting landscapes both real and imagined.

Set to Edvard Grieg’s richly atmospheric score, the production moves fluidly between moments of grandeur and introspection, drawing audiences into a world shaped by desire, illusion, and consequence. Striking sets by Erik Olson and costumes by Gianluca Falaschi create a vivid visual environment that amplifies the emotional scale of the story, allowing dance, music, and design to speak as one.

A ballet that defines Romanticism, reintroduced for today.

Giselle opens Alberta Ballet’s 2026/27 Season with a work that has shaped the classical tradition for generations. In this newly staged production by Artistic Director Francesco Ventriglia, after the original choreography of Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, the ballet’s emotional clarity and poetic restraint come to the forefront.

Across two contrasting worlds, innocence gives way to heartbreak, and love reveals its quiet resilience. Set to Adolphe Adam’s enduring score, Giselle remains a profound exploration of devotion, loss, and grace — a beginning that honors where ballet has been and gestures toward where it continues to go.
