Quickdraw Animation Society

Quickdraw Animation Society A place for people who love animation. The Quickdraw Animation Society is a place for people who love animation.

We encourage animation production, dissemination and appreciation through screenings, workshops, courses, camps, and other events designed to ignite the publicโ€™s passion for the medium. Incorporated as a non-profit society in 1984, the Quickdraw Animation Society initially focused on the exhibition and appreciation of animation before acquiring its first production equipment and a location in down

town Calgary in 1992. Since then, our members' films have screened and won awards around the world. We launched the GIRAF animation festival in 2005, which now receives over 600 submissions annually and has been an early supporter of some of the animation world's best rising talent. And our outreach programs, like the Youth Animation Project and it's aboriginal youth-focussed offshoot, have been recognized by the Governor General. Most of all, though, we're just really passionate about the medium of animation, and want to find more and more ways to share that love.

Work with the artistic director to plan a signal film up to 1 minute in length, including pre-production, production, and post production activities. The signal film artist will also use design elements from their film to create print and online digital marketing assets (for posters, flyers, social media templates, and festival website)

The ideal candidate is an emerging or early-career animator who has completed or is undertaking post-secondary studies in animation, visual arts, design or similar, or has comparable experience or training, with proficiency with animation and design tools.

The animator will bring their own style and artistic approach to the film, with the opportunity to grow their skills in their preferred animation medium.

Funding for this job is provided by the Government of Canadaโ€™s Summer Jobs Program. As a condition of this program, applicants must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred, between the ages of 15-30 at the start of employment.

Applicants will be asked to submit:
- a portfolio or samples of work.

- Cover Letter discussing why youโ€™re interested in this opportunity, working with QAS, and a simple description of an idea for the GIRAF 22 signal film.

This role requires high levels of creativity, motivation and dedication and the ability to both collaborate artistically with the QAS team, and work independently in the studio. Candidates from communities historically underrepresented In animation (women, Indigenous, racialized and LGBTQ2S+) are strongly encouraged to apply for this opportunity.

Enter to win by tagging who you want to bring and a ๐Ÿ Emoji.

๐Ÿญ An unemployed middle-aged mouse suspects his entire world is merely a set, tracing the conspiracy to a corporation influencing every corner of his life.

๐ŸคSomething is wrong in the city of Anywhere. Arnold is caught in an existential crisis. His marriage is falling apart, his life feels meaningless, and he begins to suspect that everything around him is a grand illusion. When his best friend dies under mysterious circumstances, he believes a monolithic corporation is behind it. What begins as a creeping paranoia turns into a desperate flight toward something that might, just might, resemble freedom. Adapted from the acclaimed 2016 short film by director Alberto Vรกzquez (BIRDBOY: THE FORGOTTEN CHILDREN, UNICORN WARS), DECORADO blends biting humor with haunting beauty in a darkly comedic odyssey through our era of social control, manufactured realities, and the quest for authentic human connection.
