💙 COACH SPOTLIGHT: SPENCER VAN ROESSEL
Many of you know Spencer as a Canada West coach. What you may not know is that he recently completed an incredible 17-day, coast-to-coast adventure across Canada with his dad, John.
After being shortlisted but not selected for The Amazing Race Canada, the father-son duo decided to create their own version of the race. Their “Amazing Adventure” took them across six provinces and territories, through 19 cities, towns, and parks, tackling challenges that included canoeing the Yukon River, hiking mountains, kayaking the Pacific Coast, exploring Hopewell Rocks, bungee jumping in Quebec, and retracing family history at Pier 21 in Halifax.
Featured recently in The Globe and Mail, Spencer and his dad showed that sometimes the best adventures aren’t the ones you’re chosen for—they’re the ones you create yourself.
As a former Canada West athlete and now a coach, Spencer continues to demonstrate the qualities we value most: perseverance, resilience, leadership, curiosity, and a willingness to embrace challenges.
We’re proud to have Spencer helping develop the next generation of Canada West athletes, both on and off the court.
