Pillow Talk
Angelina Myers, 2024, Sculpture, Pillows and Blanket made from Cotten, White leather, Polyester.
“Pillow Talk” is an installation that invites viewers to reflect on the complexities of intimacy and communication within relationships. The piece features a bed set up on a concrete floor, symbolizing the difficulty some people face in achieving intimacy and engaging in meaningful conversations. The bed is made with black sheets, white pillowcases, and white leather lettering that spells “talk,” emphasizing the central theme of communication. Accompanying the bed is a double-sided black-and-white blanket with two different textures, representing the varied experiences and emotions that come with intimate interactions.
This work underscores the significance of communication in forming and maintaining connections and relationships. It highlights the notion of “pillow talk,” the intimate conversations that might occur before, during, or after physical closeness. The installation encourages viewers to lay in the bed and engage in conversations with someone of their choice, prompting them to activate and enhance their communication skills. By creating a space for these interactions, “Pillow Talk” serves as a powerful reminder of the essential role that open, honest dialogue plays in fostering deeper connections between individuals.
