One year ago, the Calgary Roughnecks won the National Lacrosse League NLL Championship against the Buffalo Bandits at the Saddledome in front of thousands of fans who packed the Saddledome. We gave fans a booming welcome to the stadium, and then as a group we enjoyed watching the exciting game together. We’ll never forget the roar of the crowd when Calgary won in overtime! Photos and video clip are on our blog post at https://www.rockymountaindrums.com/post/calgary-roughnecks-lacrosse-nll-cup-final (or tap the link in our IG bio).

The virtual Hiryu Project videos (to play along with) are up!

Please see our blog post for instructions and the click tracks for the video project. We’d love to see everyone’s videos and include them in our project!!

The Hiryu Project was created to bring together the world’s taiko groups to play the piece “Hiryu Sandan Gaeshi” which was created by one of the world’s greatest innovators in the world of taiko, Grandmaster Daihachi Oguchi. On June 27th, the day of Oguchi-sensei’s passing, we invite taiko...

Have you seen our blog?

We are continuing to get together (virtually, of course) and working on new material, but we still miss being together to play as an ensemble in person. We’d like to share this post that includes a YouTube video of our performance and some really fun photos of us at GlobalFest - The Calgary Fireworks Festival Society.

Globalfest is known in Calgary for the amazing fireworks festival in August, along with cultural pavilions, performance stages, and food tru

Covid has forced us to get creative with video tracks, online learning, and practice videos as we learn Kodo’s One Earth composition entitled Shunpuu (“Spring Wind”). We’ve finished the chudaiko part and about halfway through the shime part!

Please participate in our Hiryu Project video! Details linked in our bio, or www.rockymountaindrums.com/blog. Like many artists and community groups, we are really missing our face-to-face rehearsals. We have been able to transition pretty smoothly to online format without missing any rehearsal time, focusing on learning new material. We can’t wait to play together soon!
