Just released the new space action shooter Stellar Strike! Welcome to Astrelon Entertainment! As with a lot of small startup game companies I got lured into the mobile game business with a promise of fame and fortune. Not a whole things went according to the plan - do they ever? Instead of taking 2 months to complete the first game, it took over 2 years. Instead of having several people helping ou

t with graphics and sounds, I ended up doing everything by myself. Despite all of this, this little company is now proud creator of its first mobile game - Mighty Castle. Instead of focusing on some new unique sensation to take internet by storm, we focus on what games should really be about: simply fun and entertaining. Please stop by and enjoy what seems to have taken an eternity to create!

Meet Elise! She is smart, sharp-tongued, and basically your only help on the other side of the comms. She will explain things to you, give you words of encouragement where needed and mock you if you manage to mess up. And she's a sight for sore eyes after dealing with all the ugly aliens out there!

It's been a long time since I posted an updated - mostly because I was lazy. Got many things done with the game. Among them is the intro sequence to the game. What do you think?

There are 3 new mission types available now:

• Wormhole: fly through the fast-paced space warps with everything coming at you fast. Put your reaction skills to the ultimate test with this frantic game mode.
• Stealth: sneak around the unaware aliens and collect the extra loot. But beware: any noise will bring down the entire alien armada on you. So watch out for those asteroids!
• Asteroid Belt: navigate the tight corners of space tunnel surrounded by walls of asteroid fields. Rare items await to be collected there but not everyone can make it to the end of the maze. You might want to choose a skinny spaceship for this one!

You know when many games get so many “balance changes” patches and you wonder how hard could it be to balance a few bad guys’ damage vs your health? Well, as it turns out - very hard! I’ve been working on balancing the new Stellar Strike for the past couple of weeks. There are many space ships, each with its own life, damage and other stats. There are many parts to be added to them – each with their own damage, life and other stats and powers. There are aliens, each with their own life and damage. Asteroids of various sizes and damage. And what kind of game would it be without spending resources on upgrading your ships and crafting some new items? Of course, all of this needs to be dynamic – as the game progresses and difficulty increases all of the above has to stay pretty solid – not too easy and not too hard.
Being a bit math inclined, I started first with some math equations to get the rough relationships figured out. Few iterations and adjustments later it was OK, but not perfect. Now it’s time for the fun part – lots of testing and tweaking. Tweak, test, repeat! So that is what I’ve been up to for the past couple of weeks. I do have a feeling though that there will be balance changes patches in store for this game…

2.5 years ago I completed my first mobile game - Mighty Castle. It was challenging, eye opening, and very rewarding experience. The second game, I thought, would be a breeze and would take no time to complete as I already had so much experience from developing the first game. Umm... Does anyone have a time machine so I can go back to the 2.5 year younger version of myself and tell him to calm his expectations?! I guess there is no point because I would have still worked on my new project and tried my best to get it done regardless of the cost. So, after putting 2,000 hours of work, consulting 3 dozen Stack Overflow pages, reverse engineering 100+ images and writing 20,000 lines of new shining (OK some of it is not so shiny) code - the new project has the light of day. The new game is called Stellar Strike.

What is Stellar Strike? I'm glad that literally no one has asked that question so that I can answer it anyways. Stellar Strike is a space action shooter with elements of RPG. No, not the gun from Duke Nukem... Though it has something along the lines of that too. Fly the space ships, collect resources, spend on upgrading parts of rockets or craft new rockets altogether. Dodge the asteroids, comets and other space junk. Oh, and there are just a couple of angry aliens to hunt down and shoot. Why shoot them you ask? Well... I haven't fully developed the story for that yet. When we'll know - you'll know! All that's important to know for now is that aliens are shooting at us and we're Terrans - we will have none of it!

The game is in the final stages of development and I'm hoping to get it released early in 2020. It'll be available for iOS and Android. I'll keep posting my progress on a regular basis from now on to let you know of all the wonderful bugs I'll be fixing and maybe some new features being added. Stay tuned! And if you want to tell me that I've wasted the past 2.5 years of my life then I hope your internet provider shuts down right at that moment! OK, just kidding - I welcome any feedback - good, bad, ugly. Have a great day (or night) everyone! Will stay in touch.
