There’s something really special about seeing Deaf artists have the space to take risks, tell stories their own way, and be fully supported while doing it. That’s what the Deaf Arts Incubator is about!

New work. New voices. New possibilities.
And hopefully the beginning of many more to come.

2. Suffocate II: The Night’s Grabbing Mara

What’s the difference between a Relaxed Performance and a Relaxed Environment?

Understanding the nuance helps every audience member choose the experience that fits them best. While a Relaxed Environment changes the "social rules" of the room, a Relaxed Performance goes further by adjusting technical elements like sound and lights.

At the end of the day, Access is Freedom. Swipe to learn more!
(ID: Slide 1: A photo of a busy theatre lobby. Text: Relaxed Performance vs. Environment.

Slide 2: Illustration of an audience. Text: Relaxed Environment. The show stays exactly as the artists intended, but the audience rules change. You can move around, exit and re-enter, or make noise. It's a "No-Shush" zone.

Slide 3: Illustration of a person gesturing to their ear. Text: Relaxed Performance. We go a step further and adjust the technical side: strobe lights are removed, and the house light stay dim so you're never in total darkness.

Slide 4: Illustration of a family. Text: Why the distinction matters? For some, the sensory triggers of the show are the trigger. For other, it's the social pressure of sitting perfectly still. We want to provide the right tools for both.

Slide 5: Illustration of two people signing on a bench. Text: Access is Freedom. Whether it's the environment or the performance itself, our goal is to make sure you can focus on the story, not the "rules."

Slide 6: Seafoam green background with bold text: Theatre For Every Body.)

The heartbeat of our Good Host program just found a beautiful rhythm of her own.

We are beyond happy to celebrate the engagement of our friend and colleague, Ashley King. From her powerful work writing and performing STATIC to her recent starring role in Lazy Susan, Ashley is a gift to Calgary’s stage. As our Good Host Coordinator, she spends her days making sure everyone else feels a sense of belonging and seeing her celebrated by the team she gives so much to was the highlight of our month.

Ashley, we are so glad you’ve found a love of your very own with Trent. Cheers to the next act!

The light at the end of the tunnel is looking bright!

THE WALL IS FINALLY UP! After all the planning and sawdust, it’s finally starting to feel real. Much like you all, we really can't wait to open our doors and welcome you all home.

Construction is costly, but our priority is keeping this space affordable for our local indie artists and the community that breathes life into it. This , please consider donating to help us nourish and sustain our community. Your support ensures that cost is never a barrier to belonging.

Stay tuned because we’re getting closer every day!

We made the pages of The Scene! We’re diving deep into the conversation about Calgary’s theatre spaces in the new May issue.

The article asks the big questions, so we wanted to ask you one, too: What makes a theatre feel like home to you? Whether it’s a sense of belonging, seeing your own stories on stage, or just a really comfortable vibe.

We want to hear it while we prepare for the opening of our venue!

Check out our interview in the "Off Stage" feature! Pick up a physical copy or read it online at the link in our bio.

So what do we actually do here?

- We host programs where people feel like they belong.
- We make theatre that reflects real lives and cultures.
- We push for accessibility that’s not an afterthought.

Basically… we’re building the kind of space we wish we had growing up.

And we’re doing it together.
