Stephanie Alexandre plays Nancy in Pith. We asked her a few questions about the show...
1. What do you love about Pith?
I love how effortlessly Pith balances humor with grief, and shows how the two are not exclusive. There was a time when my family was walking through a prolonged season of loss, with multiple unexpected deaths amongst close friends and family members. There were many tears during this time, but something that surprised me was that there was also so much laughter. The grief had a way of knitting us together. I love how this is highlighted in Pith. Virginia has experienced immense and heartbreaking loss, and while there cannot be a replacement for it, she now has Nancy and Jack to sit with her through the ache. And in the face of it, they can share a laugh together. How beautifully human.
2. What is one travel story you would share at a dinner party or gathering of friends?
Last summer, for my dad's 60th birthday, we took a father-daughter trip to Japan. I made two discoveries on this trip. The first, is that I have severe traveller's FOMO (I must make sure we don't miss out on ANYTHING). The second is that my very kind father will never say no to me. Let me tell you-- I put that poor man through the ringer. We averaged 30-40 THOUSAND steps per day, and had the adventure of our lives. There are so many stories to share, like how we somehow had a perfectly-timed hike up Mount Fuji in between severe storms, or how we accidentally ended up in Osaka at the same time as World Expo without knowing it would be there, but the best part of it all was getting to share it with my dad. He's the best friend a gal could ask for.
3. What do you hope audiences take away from Pith?
I hope audiences are inspired to play! That is something I've been learning from Pith myself. Life can be heavy, but we are blessed with imagination and creativity and the ability to enjoy fun with the people around us. Play is a reminder to hope.
