Ghost River Theatre

Ghost River Theatre Daring performance creation for Calgary, for Canada, and for the world. Our work embraces a hybrid of high tech visual spectacle with low-fi theatrical magic.

Ghost River Theatre is an innovator. Led by Artistic Director Eric Rose, GRT is a devised theatre company that creates, develops and mounts original productions through a significant investment in imaginative research and development. We make our work in a rigorous, supportive collabo

rative-creation environment that recognizes and utilizes the unique abilities of all participants, premiering our work in Calgary and then touring it nationally and internationally. As Jessica Goldman of CBC Radio stated “…no one is better at mounting a totally unique and exquisitely creative piece of work than Ghost River Theatre.”

Over our twenty-five year history, GRT has created and toured some of the most thoughtful, daring, imaginative, and seemingly impossible work that this country has produced. With a keen desire to create, to engage and to push the boundaries of live performance GRT has establish itself firmly as a leader in both the Calgary, Alberta, and national cultural ecologies. Coming to SummerWorks Performance Festival 2026 🔥

One of Canada's premier independent theatre festivals — now in its 2026 edition themed Fight | Flight, SummerWorks brings together artists who root themselves in place, community, and practice while rewriting histories and creating new narratives through the body, memory, consent, transformation, and identity.

Proud to be part of the lineup.

Soft Squishy Things 🚀

A lone trans-fem astronaut. Alone in space. So she starts making things.

A lo-fi sci-fi odyssey in miniature — where everyday objects become companions, worlds, and reasons to keep going. Object theatre meets cosmic universe. A Kleenex becomes an alien pet. Marshmallows terraform new planets.

Part humour, part heartbreak, part existential absurdity. Come for the DIY sci-fi. Stay for the soft squishy feelings.

Week 3: Assembly + sharing — shaping what we've built into something to offer.

Three weeks. Twenty artists. One intense, immersive journey into devised practice. Grateful for the space, the community, and the freedom to take bold creative risks with Ghost River Theatre.
