Day 5ish, and last day of the Art Challenge. It was hard to decide what to show you, so for something a little different, I decided to show you paintings in progress. None of these paintings are finished, but will be soon. Once my basement reno is finished I will be back at it again. I never seem to work on one painting at a time, I always have a few on the go. The last photo is of my studio in my home where there are a few pieces beckoning me to come back and paint them. Will post pictures of all of these when they are complete. I now would like to nominate a good friend and fabulous photographer for the 5 day Art Challenge . . . Leah Mitchell with Altitude Art Photography & Custom Framing

We will call this day 3.5 as it turned out to be a busy day yesterday. Sorry about that everyone. Today I decided to show three of my abstract paintings. I love painting both realism and abstract, and the majority of my abstract paintings are done in Acrylic (a few in Oil). Sometimes when a realism painting has been so intense and taken me months to finish, it is a nice release to just put the brush in the paint and kind of "feel the music" when I paint. I usually start out with a totally blank canvas with only a vision of the colours I feel like painting that day, and the paint just flows. Some days the paintings emerge to the real world, and some days they just go to the recycle/garbage bin, but it just felt good to get some nice juicy paint on the canvas :)

I decided to show my horse paintings again, even though I have posted them previously. I love painting horses! I do not personally own a horse, however, I have always had a love for them. I feel they are the most incredible animal to paint because of all their muscle structure, movement, and expression. It is like painting a puzzle, and you really have to concentrate on how each muscle is moving, how it is attached over the bone structure, plus, how the light is glistening on their coat that is covering their muscles. They are absolutely fascinating to paint. The first two paintings "Autumn Thunder" and "Ma Cherie" are painted in Acrylic, and the third painting "Cowboy Trail" is done in Oil.
