One of Calgary’s most familiar conversations has been happening on Stephen Avenue for decades.

Created by Canadian artist William Hodd McElcheran, The Conversation has become a fixture of downtown Calgary, sitting at street level and right in the middle of the city moving around it.

From its unveiling to the countless people who have walked past, stopped for a photo or taken a seat alongside it, the sculpture has become part of the fabric of Stephen Avenue.

How many times have you passed by The Conversation… or stopped to join it?

Now available for private sale, Pond, 1995 by William Perehudoff reflects the artist’s distinctive approach to Colour Field painting and his masterful use of colour. Bold bands move across the canvas, creating a composition that feels both structured and spontaneous.

A central figure in Canadian abstraction, Perehudoff developed a visual language shaped by colour, space and his deep connection to the Saskatchewan landscape. His work earned national recognition and is held in major public collections across Canada.

A full gallery, a great conversation and an afternoon celebrating Canadian artist Michael Corner.

This past Saturday, Michael Corner joined Ryan Green at Masters Gallery for Canadian Art Hop, sharing stories from the studio, his life and Cliché, his exhibition currently on view in Venice.

Thank you to everyone who filled the gallery and joined us for the afternoon. There is something pretty special about bringing artists, collectors and our community together for conversations like these, and this was a good one.

And of course, Dolce & Veloce brought a little taste of Italy to Calgary with the perfect addition to the afternoon.

More artist talks and afternoons like this to come. We hope to see you at the next one!

IMPULSE Magazine selects Michael Corner’s CLICHÉ

The New York-based contemporary art publication highlights Corner’s European debut, presented by Ryan Green Gallery at CREA Cantieri del Contemporaneo in Venice. On view through November 15, CLICHÉ brings Corner’s command of Old Master technique into a distinctly contemporary context, with IMPULSE noting his “exquisitely executed chiaroscuro and use of symbolism.”
