DYE ON SILK
I joined a group of silk painters and was totally absorbed by the brilliance of liquid dyes! Watercolour skills translated easily. The dyes can be diluted and/or mixed to obtain the colours you decide on and to set for permanence, they need to be steamed. That is a process one needs to learn, and also acquire all the necessary supplies! When painting on silk for framed art or a banner, one needs to assemble a frame and stretch the silk over it before creating an image.

One of my favorite techniques is using masa paper. The texture and depth this creates is outstanding. Although this video is a few years old, it shows you the essense of the technique.

Reach out to me if you would like to learn more about the paper and or the technique!

Cliff Face
In books by E. John Robinson who explains how to paint water in all its ways and depths, I decided to give this one a try. Following John’s instructions, I wet the paper and got to work. The cliffs were done by scraping the paint sideways. The juicy part of the paint created the formations. As the giant wave flowed up from the beach, I took a damp natural sponge and wiped off most of the pigment and this is the result!
