It was so meaningful to see both the community and the sun show up for the 17th annual Walk for Reconciliation☀️🧡. Thank you to everyone who spent the summer solstice with us to raise awareness of and reflect on the harmful legacies of the Canadian residential school system.

Today we walked to honour survivors, those who never came home, and the families who still feel the impacts. Truth and reconciliation isn’t a linear journey – we appreciate everyone making an effort and taking steps towards healing and a more compassionate future.

A sincere thank you to our partners Bow Valley College, Trellis Society, and Aboriginal Friendship Centre of Calgary.
We’d also like to thank Tim Hortons East Village and City of Calgary – Your Local Government for their support in sponsoring this event.

Each visitor is a wandering spirit on their own journey; each with their own story. By donating, your gift can be part of the story to develop a permanent residential school memorial at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers.

The memorial design, The Wandering Spirit, was created to inspire reflection of the beginnings, biases, preconceptions and prejudices that shape our view of our role in reconciliation as we move forward into the future.

The Confluence has committed $1 million towards this city-led project and is 92% of the way there. Your donation to the residential school memorial is more than a donation — it is an act of truth and reconciliation.
