Most of my paintings start light and get darker. This one started black, and everything since has been fought back out of it. The centre is a burst of yellow and chartreuse turning orange as it drops toward the bottom, with small magenta and violet notes buried in it, and every single shape is ringed in a cream outline drawn by hand β that white line is what stops the colour from sinking into the black. Out in the dark there are loose fragments still drifting away from the middle: browns, greys, a dull ochre, one shape closed off with a heavy black diamond near the top. It is painted in latex-acrylic and finished glossy enough that the black throws the light back at you when you walk past it. Painted in my Calgary studio. Prints of this one are quoted to size β the link goes to the painting and the quote form.
