“The Climb is a ceramic vessel that transforms pottery into a piece about movement, curiosity, and self-determined paths. A front opening reveals a staircase rising from within, eventually breaking through and extending beyond the rim. The vessel shifts from container to passage; its walls become thresholds rather than boundaries.

Created in response to the theme of wanderlust, the work reflects an urge to travel across physical landscapes, and move through inner terrains of thought, doubt, and transformation. The inward beginning of the staircase suggests that all journeys start in places unseen, private moments of decision, hesitation, or longing. As the staircase becomes visible, it mirrors the outward expression of internal shifts, the moment when intentions turn into action.” -Laura Leichnitz

👉 Wanderlust runs from May 27-June 28, 2026. The Headwaters Gallery is open Wednesday-Sunday, 10am-5pm.

“My work explores wanderlust through clay and textured surfaces. Using earth as my medium, I reflect the connection between place, memory, and movement. I shape and layer clay to create surfaces that resemble landscapes, pathways, and traces of travel. The textures capture a sense of time, erosion, and change, symbolizing both physical journeys and internal exploration. My process is intuitive, allowing the material to guide me while embracing imperfections. Each piece becomes a map of curiosity and longing, inviting viewers to connect with their own experiences of travel, discovery, and the emotional landscapes that shape our understanding of the world.” -Bhavna Bhatnagar
