L’Arche Greater Vancouver’s Art of Being Together will once again bring people together to support L’Arche and celebrate community. We are proud of the way this event has grown, giving artists of all abilities an opportunity to showcase their work. Their paintings continue to depict L'Arche’s unique vision of inclusion, understanding and belonging. This year we will also use this occasion to recognize of two important events. The first is that it has been 50 years since Canadian Jean Vanier welcomed two men from a local institution to live with him in his home in Trosly, France. This act of welcome started a worldwide movement that has resulted in an international federation with 145 communities across 40 countries. We are grateful to our founding members, some of whom will be at the event, who gave so much to build this community. In recognition of these celebrations the theme that has been chosen for this year is the word “with”. Artists participating in the show have been asked to submit a piece of original art that somehow uses “with” as its inspiration. This little word captures the essence of what L’Arche is about, focusing on relationships, doing things “with each other” rather than “for”. We are pleased that Mayor Corrigan has agreed to be our Celebrity Guest Artist this year and will paint an original work during the evening that reflects this theme. Guests will have the opportunity become art judges and together paint a piece that will be presented to Joe’s Table Café that will be on permanent display in the Joseph Chung Gallery attached to the Café. Proceeds go to L'Arche Greater Vancouver. Art celebrates the whole person: body, soul, spirit. And so does L'Arche. Come celebrate with us.
