Backun Musical Services From Professional and Student Clarinets to the finest Accessories, Backun Musical Services is 'Reinventing The Clarinet One Piece at a Time.'
(411)

It began as a small woodwind instrument repair shop with a big vision: to offer artists around the world the finest repair services possible. Fortunately, it grew into far more than that. One of our clients, Wes Foster, Principal Clarinet, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (Retired), had an antique clarinet in need of a barrel. Not only did Morrie Backun make him a new custom barrel, he designed it in such a way that it improved the tone and response. Word spread, and soon Wes’ colleagues started asking for barrels of their own. Since that day ten years ago, Backun Musical Services has only grown in stature and reputation. Our promise of ‘Advancing the Art of Woodwinds’ is not something we take lightly. Every day is dedicated to our craft, using our skills and advanced technologies to help musicians reach the highest levels of excellence. From exceptional aged woods to the purest metals, BMS has become renowned worldwide for our dedication to making the finest Clarinets ever. Driven by this vision and fueled by the ever-higher standards of our clients – each a proud Backun Artist – our company is constantly pushing the boundaries of art and acoustics. Small wonder that within just ten years, BMS has become the go-to source for custom repairs and woodwind instrument design. While our product line has grown over the years, what has not changed is our dedication to provide clients with exceptional products and service. Ask any of the legions of artists who play our products, and they’ll tell you why our knowledge and manufacturing services are in demand throughout the world. From our first barrel to the bell; from our mouthpiece to the first Backun Clarinet; we really are ‘Reinventing the Clarinet, One Piece at a Time’.

"As a player, I find it gratifying to play on a mouthpiece that produces a refined, yet robust and louder, sound without extensive amounts of air and lip pressure. I have designed a mouthpiece that has a significant amount of volume of sound that can be used for orchestral, band, wind ensemble, modern contemporary classical and jazz playing without losing longevity and embouchure control for the player."

A very special one-of-a-kind Backun Maple Essence Bb Clarinet infused with a purple resin in honour of Dolce Musical Instrument's founder and president, Toru Yasukawa's 70th Birthday.

In Japan, the colour purple carries significant importance at the age of 70. Backun teamed-up with our colleagues at Eastman to develop this rare and exceptionally vibrant custom Essence Bb Clarinet with gold posts, silver keys and low F Vent mechanism.

If you want to playtest this incredible instrument, book your flight to Osaka, Japan, headquarters of Dolce Musical Instruments, one of the world's premiere woodwind and brasswind music retailers!
