One of these things is not like the others… I thought it would be cool to slump one of these three ‘the other way’ so that the curve outwards was on the right instead of left.

My woodworking husband, and the one who makes all my stands looked at me in horror. Then set off for his workshop to make a right handed stand. There may have been a sigh… or muttering. I’m sure I deserved it.

I still think I was right - it suits the waves on the one piece, and even better you can put all three together in one continuous piece. Love it! 😍

Delighted that “Algonquin” has been chosen to be part of the Piece by Piece exhibition at Next Generation Arts in Scarborough. More than a gallery, they create community with youth-led and youth-centred events, whether the art is spoken word, poetry, music, or visual arts and their Spark program builds leadership skills and looks to create positive change. There’s a lot going on!

Time to work on these thumbnails I sketched quickly yesterday after conversations at Art in the Park - so many great people who came out despite the damp ground from all the rain, and lots of inspiration!

You can take the girl out of education but you can’t take the educator out of the girl..

The idea was to make a plate people could touch to experience the textures of glass as most people are nervous of touching the ‘real’ stuff, and I love using texture in my pieces - I feel like you’re missing out if you’re not touching it!!

It turned into this: a board with examples of what happens to different glass at different temperatures but I can also show copper inclusions, how to use grinder sludge, the 6mm rule, copper bearing vs sulphur bearing glass, transparent vs opal, striker glass, gradients of glass from powder to sheet glass - tons of things to talk about if people are interested.

First outing for the Touch Plate is at Art in the Park Oakville on Monday the 3rd August - come by and say hi! (and maybe learn a little 😉). I already have ideas for the Touch Plate 2.0!!!

Safe and sound, the meadow platter is resting before being packed for the show…
