What is art journaling?
If you hear “art journaling” and think it means writing pages and pages in a journal, you are not alone.
Art journaling can include words, but it is really a visual creative practice. It may include colour, collage, drawing, painting, texture, pattern, images, found papers, layers, and personal symbols.
It does not need to be polished.
It does not need to be perfect.
It does not need to become a finished artwork.
An art journal can be a place to explore materials, notice what you are drawn to, experiment with ideas, and make space for creativity in a personal way.
I found this video that gives a helpful introduction and shows many different examples of what art journaling can look like.
If you have ever wondered what art journaling actually means, this might be a lovely place to begin.
Art journaling is one of the creative practices we explore at Creative Practice, sometimes as a course, sometimes through focused workshops, and sometimes simply as a way of thinking about materials, images, and personal expression.
