Oki..as you all may know by now, the chiefs of alberta had a cultural, ceremonial gathering, with First Nations Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew. In this gathering Piikani Nation Elder Leonard Weasel Traveler bestowed on Premier Wab Kinew the Blackfoot name, 'Star Chief '. As many know the Blackfoot people have many stories, songs, and ceremonies associated with the star people. Let's make ot clear to many, this was not a meeting as defined in western culture. It was a gathering of First Nations leaders from Treaties 6-7-8. Opened by prayers, the naming ceremony, followed by ancient Blackfoot Songs. It was fitting and respected by All other chiefs in attendance since this gathering took place on the Ancestral lands of the Blackfoot confederacy. I was fortunate to chair this gathering as the chairman of the BFC.
The gathering also had a lengthy discussion as to issues we are facing here in Alberta with the Attacks on our Treaty and section 35 of the Canadian constitution. Those concerns were echoed by Premier Kinew as a direct response to the Alberta Premiers remarks when he clarified her erroneous statements. It truly was a proud day to be First Nations, to be the chief of our powerful Piikani Nation, the President of the Blackfoot confederacy, and to just be me, Bossyman from highbush. We are far from ending this political fantasy of separation and the First Nations in Alberta are ready for the battles.

As we have witnessed in past months, and more so in past weeks, racism and attacks on our members has become more prevalent. Protect yourselves at all times. iiakiimatt..
