The Western Canada Hockey Academy is excited to welcome two new members to the Academy’s On-Ice Development Team for the 2026-2027 school year.

Mark Derlago is joining as an On-Ice Development Coach, while Colby Robak joins as an On-Ice Development Coach and Strength & Conditioning Coach.

Both bring experience from high levels of hockey, giving our athletes the opportunity to learn from coaches who have played and competed at a high level themselves.

It’s one of the things that sets WCHA apart in Brandon. Our students have access to experienced hockey professionals who continue to be involved in the game and bring that knowledge directly to the ice and the next generation.

Our athletes are lucky to have coaches like Mark and Colby as part of their development!

That’s a wrap on another great summer of programming at the WCHA.

Thank you to every player who stepped on the ice with us this summer, and to the parents and families who continue to trust us with their child’s development.

At the WCHA, we take a lot of pride in creating purposeful, high-quality programming led by experienced coaches who understand what it takes to help young athletes continue to grow. Every session is designed with intention — to challenge players, build confidence, develop skills, and help them take another step forward in their game.

We’re incredibly proud of the work our athletes put in this summer and grateful to be a part of their development.

Summer programming may be wrapped up, but we’re just getting started. We can’t wait for another great season at the WCHA.

The Western Canada Hockey Academy is excited to welcome two new members to our teaching faculty for the 2026-2027 school year!

Jonathan Filewich is joining WCHA as an Educator, and Kerri Nicol is joining the team as an Educational Assistant.

There’s still time to become a WCHA student for the 2026-2027 school year!

The Western Canada Hockey Academy is always evolving to offer stronger programming and more opportunities for students to develop in the classroom and both on and off the ice.

This year, we’ve added ball development alongside hockey, welcomed new teachers and on-ice instructors, and continue to offer rural pickup options for students travelling from outside the Brandon area.

The school year starts September 9. If you’ve been considering WCHA, there’s still time to join us.

This year's BWK/WCHA Goalie Camp wrapped up yesterday.

U9-U13 goaltenders trained hard for four days of focused training, on-ice development, dryland work and classroom sessions.

A big thank you to our lead instructors Tyler Plante, WCHA Director of Goaltending Development, and Jared Paulsen, Virden Oil Capitals Goalie Coach, along with all of the coaches and helpers who made the week a success.

We were also excited to welcome special guests Filip Ruzicka and Jiri Patera, who brought valuable experience and insight to our young goaltenders.

Thank you to every goalie who came ready to learn, compete and put in the work.

Development is about more than drills. It’s about learning from people who have been there.

As part of the WCHA student-athlete experience, players regularly have opportunities to learn from experienced coaches and mentors, including special on-ice mentorship sessions at the Keystone Centre with the Brandon Wheat Kings.

These moments give athletes the chance to ask questions, gain insight, and learn what it takes to compete at the next level.

At the WCHA, we believe the best development happens when athletes are surrounded by people who challenge them, support them, and help them see what’s possible.

Last winter, Jaymes travelled to communities like Wawota, SK, giving players the opportunity to access the same intentional, development-focused programming WCHA athletes experience on home ice.
