Tara Leach originals are now available in the AGSM Gift Shop!

"Remote Possibility" is a large acrylic painting featuring a showy pink lady's slipper with an abstract backdrop.

"A lady slipper is sending a message to somewhere or someone very remote. Someone who might come when called or who might decide it’s best not to interfere. The billowing atmosphere above the flower is afire with lightening, throwing down a storm of dangerous triangles, but the strange, intricate flower will drink the rain, hide in plain view, and stay low to outsmart the wind. The strange, unlikely, private extravagance of the lady slipper persists, regardless of whether the message is received or not."

Every purchase at the AGSM Gift Shop directly supports the Manitoban artist behind the work. Thank you for shopping local!

“[T]he patchwork comes together in one blanket, it leaves us with a final question: As we are all living in this world, how do we continue with respect for our surroundings in balance and harmony with nature?” -Mélanie Rocan

https://agsm.ca/series/mending-quilt-project-2025-2026/

Through the metaphor of the quilt, Mending reflects the sheer effort of enjoying life. Emotional tensions, like the tension between the twinned experiences of hardship and ease, are a motif throughout Mélanie Rocan’s painterly work, here manifest in the ultra-material, apparently documentary mediums of textile, video, and photography. Constructed of second-hand material, the 11-metre-long quilt is adorned with text from the King James translation of Ecclesiastes 3:1–8. This passage, which begins, “To every thing there is a season,” lives in the collective consciousness as a contradiction itself, an instruction to find comfort in one’s own powerlessness; discover one’s agency in the relinquishing of control.

Meading: Quilt Project 2025 - 2026 is on display in the Main Gallery now until August 1, 2026.

Making Our Mark III is on display in the Kayes Family Community Gallery now until August 1, 2026. In collaboration with Brandon Pride, this community exhibition features work by Westman 2SLGBTQIA+, their stories, and experiences.

"Craters on Mars" by TJ Southam is a visually grisly and detailed observation of their own skin during their transition journey. The texture of this work is best witnessed in person.

"I began hormone replacement therapy in 2024. There are side effects from such treatment that you don't think about until you experience them yourself. For me, it was the catastrophe that was my back! There was a lot of acne that was cool to photograph, but also pretty gross. Later on, I was asked to consider the abject subject and whether such a subject could be portrayed with a sense of beauty. I recalled the photos I had taken and knew I needed to paint from them. Using construction adhesive was a very good choice - it's cheaper than modelling paste, and I found its tackiness made for some fantastic effects in the final work."

Due to high demand, we've received another restock from Bill Turner! 🍄‍🟫🍄 These hand-carved and painted mushroom sets were the first to sell out when he last dropped by the gallery. But it doesn't stop there -- we have wizards, gnomes, chickens, and more new whittled woodworks from this Brandon artist.

If you're looking for a unique souvenir or a small gift for someone special, stop by the AGSM to check out the new stock!

This week-long course introduces participants to the exciting art of lino block printing and the process of creating multiple editions of an original design. Participants will explore essential printmaking techniques, including safe carving practices, inking methods, proper press usage, and edition labelling, for a professional series of prints. Through guided instruction and hands-on practice, students will gain an understanding of how drawings can be transformed into reproducible works of art.
