PLACES YOU CAN KNIT
Follow along on our weekly MUSKOKA BOUND 2026 summer series as I highlight my favorite places to sit and knit with a featured colourway hand dyed and inspired by twelve special destinations in cottage country.

During the last week in our summer adventure series of exploring Muskoka, an early morning hike leads to a Tolkien-like setting deep in the mossy forest. While most visitors are impressed by the sheer 50 ft height and majesty of High Falls in Bracebridge, a rugged pathway leads off the main trail into the cool forest.

Potts Falls is widely considered the true "hidden gem" of the park, a cascading waterfall heavily enshrouded by a thick canopy of Muskoka pines and maples, making it feel secluded even though it is quite close to the main road. Natural granite ledges provide viewing spots to sit and knit while tree roots offer stable support for agile hikers to climb down to the river's edge. Above the magical hidden falls a wooden bridge spans the river and creates a unique view from above.

LAKE ONTARIO SOCKS
Designed by Nancy Wheeler in 2024, this sock design is inspired by the smallest of our Great Lakes, formed over 11,000 years ago by glacial ice erosion. The name comes from Iroquoian words meaning "lake of shining waters" or "beautiful lake".
FUN FACT: Our province was named Ontario based on the existing lake name.

This pattern is a cuff down design with a traditional reinforced heel flap and features an intriguing wavelike panel worked with intermittent eyelet stitches.

This week we venture down the Trans Canada Trail in search of local bird activity. One of the easier access points to the Great Trail that spans 28,000 kms across Canada is at Kerr Park in Bracebridge. This recreational setting is a multi-use greenspace with a large-scale pond for quiet reflection, a heritage barn for community celebrations, a very popular off-leash dog park, picnic spots for sitting and knitting, and a number of sporting fields.

Signage along the top ridge of the park leads onto the walking trail where pollinators are busy preparing for autumn and birds are enjoying the dense canopy of goldenrod to dart under.
