A vibrant, joyful road movie, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert follows two drag queens and a transgender woman as they travel across the Australian outback in a lavender bus named Priscilla. Bursting with iconic costumes, unforgettable music, and sharp humour, the film is a celebration of identity, friendship, and chosen family.

In recognition of Pride Month, this special screening honours LGBTQ2S+ stories and voices, celebrating self-expression, resilience, and the power of living authentically.

Aysanabee (Ace-in-abbey) is an Oji-Cree, four-time JUNO award-winning alternative indie artist from the Sucker Clan of Sandy Lake First Nation, a remote fly-in community in Northwestern Ontario. He is widely known for his powerful shows of stories and songs, including his radio hits “Nomads”, “Somebody Else”, “Gone Baby Gone” and “Home”.
With a swirling mix of rock, soul, and electronic sounds, Aysanabee’s music has drawn comparisons to Bon Iver, Hozier, Kings of Leon and more.

We are pleased to present Alex Wells for an afternoon of Indigenous Dance. This special performance is in support and celebration of National Indigenous History Month.

Alex Wells visits the Bowen Theatre to present a cultural performance to share stories that have been passed down from generation to generation through song and dance. Each historical dance has its own story to tell, from the outfits to the steps into the hoops, a creation story of life and of plants and animals.

Bowen Island’s Hearth Gallery is spotlighting q***r voices this June with their inaugural Q***r Arts Show, Hello, My Name is… A show platforming 2SLGBTQIA+ voices from June 3rd till the 15th.

The exhibit title, Hello, My Name is…, functions as an open-ended introduction to provoke critical questions about the relationship among identity, art, and community: How do you feel when self-identifying or labeling? What are the comforts and challenges of labeling and identity categories?
