Day 1
We will finish setting up what we can today.
Today the smoke houses will finish being built.
And we will be starting to prepare to smoke fish and meat!
Ready to work, come on down.

Then later today, people who people will be starting some thier projects.

Excitement as we move into set up of the camp tomorrow and our first campers are travelling from Calgary and Edmonton to attend. Tipis are going up after noon, so please come out to help, and/or to learn, to watch, to see and experience part of building the camp.

Founding for Many Tipi's Camps.... Reviving the Artisans
**Identity and Belonging**
Displacement leads to feelings of not knowing if a person has a right to express themselves through art, as each of the crafts is directly tied to culture. To bring back the crafts one must also bring back the teachings and confidence to use the items; To feel like the crafted items are part of their identity, thus connecting them to their nation, so they belong.
Welcoming each individual back to the land in land-based camps, back to being in the tipis and trapper’s tents has always brought people instantly the sense of a safe environment and allows a person to feel connected to their history. The camp is a land-based camp and will have 3-5 tipi’s and a few trappers’ tents to give the environment of tradition. Everyone will be asked to dress accordingly if they can in ceremonial attire.. This allows people to start acting accordingly in a space of respectfulness. Which is one of our core values.
Each day being brought into the camp and being smudged and prayed over helps keep the mind clear and start the day in the right frame of mind. Continual smudging throughout the day and ceremony in handling our items as they are crafted will help with the respect and honor of the items being crafted. Each individual will feel that safe space to vision and craft

Update ❤️

It’s been a hectic year.

After my major surgery, I had to put so much of life on hold while I healed. For a while, I honestly didn’t know what I would be capable of doing again, so I gave myself the time to recover and figure that out as I went.

Then life did what life does. 😂 We suddenly had to move because the owners were selling the home, so everything shifted again. My focus became packing, moving, and getting us set up for RV living for now.

Then came the back-to-back meetings, responsibilities, and everything else that seems to find its way onto the plate.

I always say a busy life is a happy life—but among all that busyness, we also have ceremonial commitments and responsibilities that we need to honour. Some things aren't just events on a calendar. They are commitments we carry.

So I’m very happy to finally announce that Reviving the Artisan Camp is happening! ❤️

We will be bringing the camp back as part of our 150 Years Honouring Treaty Week.

September 5 – Camp setup
September 6 – Opening with Horse Dance
September 6–11 – Reviving the Artisan Camp
And then we move right into our Powwow!

It took a little longer than usual to get here this year, but sometimes life asks us to slow down, heal, regroup, and then pick things back up when we're able.

And now, we’re ready. ❤️

Registration forms will be up and running within the next couple of days.

There will be a fee for non-band members of Kehewin to help contribute toward supplies and food. More information will be included with registration.

Looking forward to seeing everyone, creating together, visiting, learning, sharing, and carrying these beautiful skills forward.
