Two Ontario Provincial Police officers from the same Southern Georgian Bay Detachment were charged with sexual assault in consecutive days last week following separate investigations by the Special Investigations Unit.

On August 17, Const. Zahid Javed (pictured) was charged with three counts of sexual assault and three counts of breach of trust.

The SIU says the alleged incidents involved three women and took place between August 2024 and October 2025. The OPP first notified the SIU of one allegation in early February 2026, and investigators later uncovered two additional complainants. Javed was arrested at SIU headquarters and released on conditions, including no contact with the affected persons. He is scheduled to appear in Midland court on September 10.

The following day, August 18, Sgt. Blake Hamilton ( no confirmed picture available) was charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of breach of trust. Those allegations involve a woman in the Township of Tay and stem from incidents in December 2025. The OPP reported the matter to the SIU on February 24. Hamilton was also arrested at SIU headquarters and released under similar conditions. He faces the same court date in Midland.

Both officers have been suspended with pay. The OPP has indicated it will conduct its own internal investigation under the Community Safety and Policing Act once the criminal proceedings conclude. The SIU has declined further comment while the cases remain before the courts. The allegations against both officers have not been proven in court.
