Jo C Willems Art “The image is the medium that speaks of the journey”

I have been painting for as long as I can remember.

One of my earliest memories is of standing out-of-doors in front of a table loaded with paints and paper with a brush in my hand.

The Campbell River Hospice Society is hosting a gala fundraiser on June 19th. I have created a series of small gouache studies of Bear Creek Nature Park specifically for this event. All of these works have a theme of transition and connectedness. I have contributed additional pieces of art for the live and silent auctions.

The main inspiration behind this fundraising evening is over 65 pieces of Indigenous art and West Coast landscape donated from the estate of Eileen Harrison. After settling in Campbell River, she became especially inspired by the Indigenous art of Vancouver Island, including the work of Roy Henry Vickers and Mark Hobson.

Plan to attend this gala event! June 19th, 5;30-9pm. Hospice Serenity Gardens, 440 Evergreen Road, Campbell River BC. The will be Live Jazz featuring the Mel McCutcheon Quartet, wine by donation & bites, live and silent auctions. Here is a link for the event details, ticket purchases and more! Hope to see you there! https://www.crhospice.ca/cr-soul-cyclers

"As Life Unfolds"
When we are young
We are impatient

When we are old
We wait patiently
For things to unfold

A Tiny Bit Of Peace
Not always easy to obtain
Though the way is obvious
It is littered with frailty

Gouache, 9 x 12.
Another painting added to the series from my walks in Bear Creek Nature Park. This park helps me to find a tiny bit of peace. The park is close to my home, easily accessible within moments. I appreciate having nature so nearby...

Unfolding Flow
Always unfolding,
to grow, to thrive,
so dependable,
Forever a surprise.

Medium: Gouache Size 8 x 10".

Painting this series from my walks in Bear Creek Nature Park allows me to immerse myself into the misty feeling that hangs around the trees and pathways. It clears the clutter from my mind to breathe in that fresh, clean air, moistened by nature's kiss. "From Other Times: It's about change. Looming transitions. Unknowable Yet Foreseen"
This is the 2nd painting of a series I am doing from Bear Creek Nature Park in Black Creek, BC.

The medium is Gouache. The paint works in layers, and I never know what I will get after until each layer dries. It is always unknowable, yet foreseen, just like what I will encounter along the trails in the park. Size is 8 x 10 - smaller than I normally work with but it proves interesting.

You can see more paintings from this secluded park on my website, https://www.jocwillems.com/island-1
