Don’t want to miss out on the next jam, brunch, camp, or festival? Wondering which tune you should learn next? Look no further! We’ve made a calendar that will keep track of all these important details!

The Northern Lights Bluegrass & Old Time Tune Calendar features twelve tunes/songs of the month, twelve beautiful photos of the northern lights (taken by Tornado Hunters’ Greg Johnson), and important NLBO dates you don’t want to forget.

We received so many great tune/song suggestions in our suggestion box at camp and festival, and are currently choosing which ones will make it into the 2027 calendar!

All of the tunes/songs will be recorded and uploaded to our website by the new year so that people can learn them and practice at home.

Calendars can be ordered up until November 1, and will be delivered to you before Christmas (might make for a good gift!). Order yours for $20 on our website. Don’t wait to get yours - we sold out last year!

Step Dancing Workshop with Alanna Jenish

🗓 Sunday, October 4th, from 12:30-1:30pm
📍at The Bassment (202 4th Ave N, Saskatoon, SK)

Join us for a free Ottawa Valley step dancing workshop, led by Alanna Jenish! Alanna is an award-winning step dancer and just won the 19-39 category at the Canadian Fiddle and Stepdance Championship (Pembroke, ON).

No experience is required for this workshop - just bring yourself and a pair of comfortable shoes (runners work great). Come learn the basics of step dancing!

Alanna Jenish is an accomplished fiddler, guitarist, and step dancer from Peterborough, Ontario. She is currently on tour across Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan and is playing at The Bassment with Joanana Bronson and Jake Lauzon on October 4th.

Stick around for the jam afterwards (1:30-3:30pm) and then return for a night of great music at The Bassment (NLBO members get a discounted ticket price)!

The Canadian Country Music Awards are returning to Saskatoon this month, and there's a whole host of amazing performances taking place throughout the city in addition to the big awards themselves!

Vocal Harmony Workshop with Gil & Wil 🐎🪻

Join us for a free vocal harmony workshop, led by this year's sold-out Vocal Harmony class instructors: Holly Gilroy & Aiden McRorie Wilson (Gil & Wil).

Learn how to find harmony notes and practice holding onto them with others singing around you in this workshop. No experience necessary!

Stick around after the workshop for the free open jam at The Bassment (1:30pm-3:30pm) and try out what you've learned! 😊

The walls of the Jack Millikin Centre were more vibrant this festival, with the beautiful Quilt Art Hangings of Mary Olsen. The design mimics stained glass and the artistry of each piece was the talk of the camp & festival. Designed with versatility in mind, individual sections can be disassembled and rearranged into different patterns, allowing each piece to be enjoyed in new ways. Both sides are equally vibrant and worthy of display, reflecting Mary’s attention to detail and her delight in colour and design. She had a deep love of music and would be especially pleased to know the proceeds from this auction will support Northern Lights, helping creativity and community. Huge thanks to her daughter Mo for donating the quilt art, and to Carol, John & Emery Mielke their help in making the auction a success!
