Creative play for understanding, regulation & wellness
No art experience required! Hello and welcome πΏ π
I'm Maggie Stevenson, a Certified Therapeutic Arts Practitioner, Honours Specialist in Visual Arts Education, and the founder of Blue Roof Studio. For over 20 years, Iβve had the privilege and joy of crea
ting therapeutic arts and arts education programs for youth and adults in schools, safe shelters, alternative youth programs and more, always with the same goal: to foster self-discovery, self-compassion & acceptance, intuitive creativity and creative thinking, and wellness and connection through the arts. These experiences, along with my own journey through chronic disease, burnout and healing led me to more fully understand the connection between creative, tactile processes and neurological and holistic healing and earn my certification as a Therapeutic Arts Practitioner at the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy (CiiAT). Between Belleville and Trenton in a cozy second-story studio in a renovated barn space, I offer therapeutic arts sessions & series, art classes, and workshops for individuals, couples, families, and groups, both in-person and virtually. From ceramics and mixed media to guided creative experimentation, participants are invited to explore their emotions, creativity, and inner knowledge in a supportive, judgment-free environment. This is a space that nurtures self-compassion, intuitive creativity, and community connectionβno art experience needed, just curiosity.

βββ COMMON QUESTIONS βββ
WHAT ARE THERAPEUTIC ARTS? Therapeutic Arts sessions at Blue Roof Studio are a supportive space to engage in guided creative, somatic processes of self-discovery. The art β as an end product β is the side effect of a process of exploration and observation using various art forms and mediums. In sessions, participants connect with their intuitive knowledge, and gain physical, emotional, cognitive, and often spiritual self-awareness. Physical sensations, thoughts, and feelings can be accessed and expressed that may otherwise go unnoticed or be difficult to articulate. ARE YOU A REGISTERED PSYCHOTHERAPIST? I am not a registered psychotherapist, and therefore do not guide individuals in exploring histories of trauma. Instead, I can support you in managing the effects of these experiences in the present. In sessions, we remain in the here and now, and focus on self-acceptance and self-expression to support self-care. WHAT IF I HAVE NO ARTS EXPERIENCE? No experience necessary! But curiosity is essential :)
Therapeutic Arts sessions at BRS are not art classes. They are creative processes that unfold in the moment according to intentions you set, themes we explore, and thoughts, feelings, instincts and insights that may arise. WHAT IF I'M LOOKING FOR AN ART CLASS? Please follow this page and check back! We are so excited for upcoming offerings where you can learn techniques, experiment with various art forms and materials, and connect in an accepting, relaxed space. And just like in Therapeutic Arts sessions, there is no art experience required, and absolutely no judgment! Beginners are most welcome. Come as you are to experiment and have fun! ABOUT THE STUDIO
