What a fabulous start to the quilting season I've had here in Horsechops in the new studio. I've completed two Some Day on Quilts workshops with 16 participants registered, and three sessions of the Learn to use My Sewing Machine 2.5 hour class with 13 participants registered in those. I still have more workshops coming in October and November including an 8-week Learn to Quilt Beginners Course starting on Monday, October 26 and continuing each Monday evening from 6:30 - 9:00 until December 14. Check out the details and our other course offerings here: https://the-quilted-stash.myshopify.com/apps/events/learn-to-quilt-evening-edition-8-week-course-oct-2026-v44p7xu

For a look at the quilt you'll learn to make, see pics in the comments - Mudder's Nine Patch Garden Quilt.

Last Sunday and today I hosted "Some Day on Quilts" workshops in our new studio. I am so grateful to the people who sign up, take part, take risks, and choose to spend a beautiful Sunday with me learning about fabric collage, raw edge fusible applique, crumb quilting, and all the stuff I've gotten into (good and bad) since joining the world of quilting. I appreciate you all and thoroughly enjoy these days. A special thank you to Rob Coles for preparing and hosting us for a beautiful lunch. Good food, good company, good quilting...what else can you ask for?

I have a few other workshops or classes scheduled for the fall, including a couple of virtual Some Day on Quilts workshops. Please check out our website at www.thequiltedstash.com if you're interested.

On August 25th the world lost a treasure - Dolly Parton. On that same day, Michael de Adder posted a tribute cartoon on his social media with the caption "A life of many colours". It moved me.

I wrote to Michael to ask permission to use his image to create a quilted portrait that would not only honour Dolly but would also honour my mom, who passed away in July 2023. Being the youngest of seven children, I spent a lot of time with mom on my own as there was a large age gap between us kids. Sundays in the summers were spent driving around the area where I grew up looking for trouting holes and eventually a custard cone for mom and a banana split for me. My memories of these Sunday afternoon excursions always have "Coat of Many Colours" playing as the soundtrack because it always seemed to be on the car radio when we were out driving. Tasked with the honour of writing and reading her eulogy, I wrote about these Sunday summer memories and how mom lived a life very much rooted in the symbolism of that coat of many colours that Dolly wrote about. At her funeral, a very special vocal artist and friend, Kathy Stock, agreed to sing the song after I finished reading the eulogy and she included a verse that I had discovered that Dolly had written but had never recorded:

"Through life I've remained happy and good luck is on my side.
I have everything that anyone could ever want from life.
But nothing is as precious as my mama's memory,
and my coat of many colors that mama made for me."

It felt like this verse had been written just for that moment.

After the funeral, my sister Sharon had given me a small suitcase of articles of clothing that she had kept belonging to mom with the idea that maybe I would make a quilt from them some day. Inspired by Michael's drawing, I knew I had the most precious project for mom's clothes. So with his permission, I have appliqued and quilted a 59" x 40.25" wall hanging that pays tribute to two women who have lived lives of many colours. I am very grateful to Michael de Adder for granting me this privilege. Thank you ❤

Once framed by NL Canvas, it will hang in our home. ❤ Corey

It's the most wonderful time of the year! The start of the curling season means more spiels, more competitive events, more amazing games, and more awards. We're always grateful to get commissioned by Curling Canada to make quilted collaged art for their various awards. Ralph Jarvis designed a new concept for this year, "Bringing it Home", and it's a stunner ✨️ 😍 💖

Happy September 1! Besides back to school, September means it's back to Quilting and Curling for me. We've got a busy month ahead with workshops, classes, bonspiels, a trip to Port Rexton to workshop "Be Still My Puffin Heart", and do a trunk show with Kim Caskey Tours. It's the official start to Quilting Season as far as we're concerned. You can order this pattern, as well as the kit, and all our other products on our website. Happy Quilting! - Corey Allan Follett

How many of you have wanted to start quilting but you just can't figure out how to fire up the old sewing machine that you inherited from mom or nan? How many of you have started to sew, got tangled up in bobbin threads, cursed a little, and said "I guess I'm not gonna be a quilter today!" Or how many of you have just been too afraid to even touch the sewing machine because it intimidates you with all of its buttons, and noises, and sharp needles and speed?

If that is you and you are able to come in person to visit the Quilted Stash Studio in Horsechops, Cape Broyle, then you might want to consider signing up for one of our "Learn to Use My Sewing Machine" classes offered on September 23, 2026. There are morning, afternoon and evening sessions still available. In 2.5 hours, I'll teach you how to

-change the needle
-thread the needle
-wind a bobbin
-check tension
-use the different settings and functions as they relate to quilting
-choose which foot to use for the job (quarter inch foot, walking foot, free motion foot, applique foot, etc.)
-achieve an accurate quarter inch seam allowance
-clean and care for your machine
-and any other questions you may have.

Click the link (https://the-quilted-stash.myshopify.com/apps/events) to see the list of classes we are offering and to sign up. Remember, your spot is not confirmed until payment has been received. Thanks all for your support.
