History of Hip-Hop Lesson - Participants will learn how the early pioneers of hip-hop used music as a tool to manifest and obtain a better way of life and achieve personal goals. Individuals will also learn how traditional indigenous c
ulture can relate to hip-hop fundamentally, while utilizing the same principles and foundations. Song Writing & Recording with an Artist - Participants will be taught by a musician how to write & record a song, also, how to incorporate self-expression into their music. Create Your Own Image - Each participant will create their own artist persona. They will choose a name, genre and design a personalized look for their artist. Live Youth Concert with J-Rez Live performances featuring J-Rez with general audience friendly, social & cultural content. We will also allow artists from the community to perform.
2. Got Juice? - A Healthy Eating and Diabetes Awareness Workshop
Participants will have hands-on interaction with juicers, fruit & vegetables in a fun-filled exercise making their own juice! They will also be taught the key factors of our traditional diet (wild rice, berries, white fish, dried meats etc.) and how they can potentially avoid illness & disease through healthy living. 3. From The Root To The Fruit – A Workshop on the Importance Of Culture. The Medicine Wheel, Four Directions & Protectors; Participants will be taught the history and meaning behind the Medicine Wheel and how it relates to them. Participants will also be taught the medicines and protection animal that relates to each direction. The 7 Grandfather / Sacred Teachings, The Great Law & Tree Of Peace; Participants will learn the importance of living by a moral code when dealing with others as well as themselves. Participants will be taught a combination of Anishnaabe and Haudenosaunee teachings and how they relate to each region and person. Living Your Culture Participants will be taught how to live their everyday lives in today’s society while practicing our traditional teachings.
4. Creators Gift - A Suicide Prevention Workshop
Why? Participants will brainstorm on root causes for people to take their own lives, and ways individuals can seek help before it’s too late. Participants will be taught the importance of being an indigenous person in these sacred times of cultural revival. Reach Out! Participants will be told about numerous outlets for personal depression as well as the local community resources put in place to help individuals suffering from mental health issues.
5. Be a Protector – A STD Prevention & Awareness Workshop
Participants will be taught the danger, definitions of STD’s. Participants will be taught the importance of sustaining a healthy body. STD Prevention and local community services.
6. Street Survival School - An Independent Living and Life Skills Workshop
Obtaining a Place to Live Participants will be taught how to acquire safe and affordable accommodations such as an apartment or room-rental by utilizing community resources. Getting a Job Participants will be taught unique strategies for acquiring and maintaining gainful employment in any sector of the workforce. Participants will also be advised on the community resources available to them for obtaining clothing , tools or transportation. Going to School Participants will learn the steps they need to take for continuing and improving their education. Participants will be given methods of over-coming the obstacles people regularly face when enrolling into post-secondary education.
7. Build Your Empire - An Entrepreneurial Workshop. Passion = Productivity + Profit Participants will learn how to create a business idea out of the things they are passionate about in life. Participants will see how hard-work can be both fun and rewarding while building their empire. Business Name & Registration Participants will choose a business name, complete a mission statement and then are guided through the step-by-step process of registering a business. Goods, Services, Pricing & Marketing Participants will complete a list of goods or services along with pricing. Participants will also learn how to create a flyer and market to the appropriate demographic. Brand Design & Logo Participants will learn the importance of building and maintaining a solid brand via good business relationships & reputation. Other topics include Drug & Alcohol Awareness, Re-Offender Rehabilitation, Bullying and Racism. Customized workshops can also be created and facilitated at request.
