! Attention Youth Filmmakers ! 2026 Central Ontario Youth Short Film Festival ✨ SUBMISSIONS ARE OPEN ✨

We are so excited to bring youth in our region access to showcase their film making skills!!

We’ve been championing youth film for years through our BFF Short Film Festival! We’ve always offered a high school category because we know the outstanding and unique voice that youth bring to their storytelling. Now, 5 years in, we are thrilled to once again participate as a qualifying festival to the Ontario Youth Film Festival. All Youth Films!

So - Let’s GO! We love to see youth throughout Ontario flexing their voices and showing us their creative minds through film.

This exciting regional competition is open to all students registered in high schools within Central Ontario, Canada!

Central Ontario is a large region! The school boards that are included in the submission roster include Barrie, Orillia, Collingwood, Mississauga, Alliston, Parry Sound, Bracebridge, Haliburton, Lindsay, New Market, Aurora, Richmond Hill, Brampton, Toronto/GTA, Ajax, Oshawa, Whitby, Milton, Oakville, Burlington. You can find the full list via the link inbelow.

And hey! If you are seeing this call for submission and your school is not in Central Ontario - we link to the OYFF partnered festivals, so check them out and submit within your correct high school region.

BFF’s!! We can’t wait to celebrate National Canadian Film Day with you tonight!

FREE SCREENING This Week for National Canadian Film Day! Celebrate with us Wednesday, April 15th, 7pm at our showing of ATANARJUAT: THE FAST RUNNER.

Based on an ancient Inuit legend, Atanarjuat is an epic tale of love, betrayal, and revenge. The beautiful Atuat (Ivalu) has been promised to the short-fused Oki (Arnatsiaq), the son of the tribe’s leader. However, she loves the good-natured Atanarjuat (Ungalaaq), a fast runner and excellent hunter. When Atanarjuat is forced to battle the jealous Oki for Atuat’s hand, the events that follow determine not only his fate, but that of his people.

Atanarjuat won 26 awards, including eight Genies and the Caméra d’Or at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. In 2015, Atanarjuat was selected as TIFF’s number one Canadian film of all time. It is the 25th Anniversary for this film.
