Every artist reaches a point where they need dedicated time to focus on the details.

At Mâwacihitowinihk Nikamowak: Indigenous Music Residency, Indigenous musicians come together for three weeks of creation, collaboration, and performance. Designed for artists with songs already in development, the residency supports participants as they refine their work through workshops, mentorship, recording sessions, and live presentation opportunities.

Through faculty-led sessions, one-on-one mentorship, studio recording opportunities, and dedicated creative space, participants will strengthen their craft while exploring new approaches to performance and production.

If you're an Indigenous musician ready to bring your music into the next stage of development, this residency is for you.

National Indigenous History Month is a time for learning, reflection, celebration, and honouring the histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. Throughout June, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity is proud to celebrate Indigenous artists, leaders, and communities on campus and across the Bow Valley.

As President and CEO Chris Lorway shares, this month is an opportunity to deepen our commitment to Indigenous arts, leadership, and truth and reconciliation through listening, learning, and meaningful action—a commitment Banff Centre continues to advance year-round.

Join us throughout the month for a variety of in-person and virtual events, starting today with our Indigenous Virtual Art Market. We’re also thrilled to welcome Six Nations singer-songwriter and Banff Centre alumna Lacey Hill on June 24 for a special live performance, along with many more experiences taking place throughout June.

“What excited you most about applying to BanffPitch?”

We asked the top three placements from the 2025 competition—and despite coming from different countries, different filmmaking backgrounds, differ and different stages of production, different story focuses, they all said the same thing: they took a chance on their story.

Mateo Arango Guerrero took home the Grand Prize for Echoes of Memory. Nazgul Omurzhanova earned First Runner-Up for Waterkeeper (Суу башы), while Tyler Burr and Alicia Newell were named Second Runner-Up for Making The Cut.

Watch the video above to hear from our Grand Prize Winner, Mateo, and our Second Runner-Up team, Alicia and Tyler.

Now we’re asking: are you our next BanffPitch finalist?

⌛ Deadline: June 30, 2026

The top five finalists will pitch live on November 7, 2026, for a chance to win the $25,000 Grand Prize plus additional awards. There is just over one month left to apply:

The Housekeeping Olympics are back in Banff tonight! 🧹

Each year, hospitality staff from across town put their skills to the test in friendly competitions including bed-making, towel folding, vacuum relays, mop races, and even the Buffer Pad Toss. Our Banff Centre hospitality team is proudly taking part once again.

To celebrate the occasion, today’s archival photo features our housekeeping staff in November 7, 1991, posing beneath a homemade banner. Cheer for Banff Centre in this year’s games, near or far! Attend the games live from the Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre, or watch for our stories tonight.

Every spring, Banff welcomes a new generation of wildlife. From mid-May through the end of June, calving season is underway, and you might catch a glimpse of some very tiny new residents on campus. Member of the Banff Centre HR team Ryan Waller captured this heartwarming moment between a new calf and its mother while keeping a safe distance and giving the pair plenty of space.

🦌While these encounters can feel magical, it’s important to admire from a distance. During calving season, mothers are especially protective of their young. Please give wildlife plenty of space and stay at least 30 metres away.

Sharing this landscape means being mindful of the animals who have always lived here and helping keep both people and wildlife safe.
