“The song that changed my life? That’s easy. Batman. Of course it was 1966. I know that because there it is on the license plate of the Batmobile: ‘Gotham 1966’.

“I’m eleven years old and know I’m a writer. I’d been writing since I was six. I get a lot of rejections. And then I hear Batman. One word. That’s it. That’s the secret. The whole song, the whole story all in one word. Batman. Taught me everything I need to know about writing. Get to the point. I’ve been trying to get to the point ever since.”

“'Kickstart My Heart' has always been my favourite song. After I left the military, I lost hope that I would feel joy again. I got the words ‘Kickstart My Heart’ tattooed on my chest, so I would see it every single day and never lose hope. A few years later, I lost everything. The next 15 years was the greatest battle I have ever fought. I would listen to this song to try and remember who I was. It was the only way I felt hope. Today, it’s a reminder that sheer will and determination is enough to survive anything.”

“The song is from 1979 and I had heard it, liked it, forgotten it. The real change came when I was re-introduced to it by a friend in early 1990's at a searching time in my life. It provided the soundtrack for my spiritual journey towards humility, gratitude and integrity that has led me to many amazing opportunities and friendships.”

“This was often the last song played at dances at summer camp. My wife (summer romance back then) and I would meet under the central beam in Brockwell Lodge before heading back to our respective cabins. That summer romance continues to this day and every time that song comes on it brings back special memories of the summer we met.” (1980)
