Some stories take a long time to unfold.

My mom recently found this old photo of myself feeding a goat. It was taken years before The Great Goat Escape was ever an idea.

Back then, I simply loved animals. I never imagined that one day I would spend my days hiking with goats through the forest, welcoming guests to our little corner of Deep Creek, and sharing these special animals with others.

Looking at this photo now, it feels like a reminder that some things stay with us. Sometimes the things we are drawn to as children quietly shape the path we take years later.

Little me would probably be pretty happy to know there are goats waiting for me at the barn every morning. 🤍🐐

This week has been full.

We’ve welcomed hikers, cabin guests, educational groups, and spent many hours on the trails. I don’t have a lot of photos or videos to show for it because, honestly, I was busy being present. Talking with guests, answering questions, sharing stories, and sometimes simply forgetting my phone back at the barn.

But one moment stands out above all the rest.

On our last hike of the week, my almost 4-year-old son decided he was coming along. Still in his pajamas, determined and ready for adventure.

What I thought would be a short walk beside us turned into something much bigger.

He led the way down the trail, teaching guests how to approach the goats, explaining what they like and don’t like, pointing out fairy holes hidden in the forest, showing everyone the twin flowers growing along the path (he actually asked the guest for money 😂 - I am proud of his business sense there though), and proudly stopping at the giant mushroom he’s been checking on for years.

Whenever someone fell behind, he encouraged them to keep going. Whenever something caught his eye, he invited everyone to see the forest from his perspective.

As his mom, I stood back and watched with a full heart.

The leadership, confidence, kindness, and curiosity he showed at not even four years old made me incredibly proud. And I am grateful to the wonderful group who welcomed him so naturally and let him be part of the experience.

Sometimes the best trail guides come in pajamas. ❤️🐐🌲

Sir, this isn’t your house.
Mater checked the door, questioned the dogs, gave me a single “maaah” when asked where he was going, and then walked away.
No further explanation was provided. 🐐😂

Meet Mater… aka Stewie. 🐐✨
Our newest, youngest future hiking goat — and our very first LaMancha!

He’s busy making friends with the herd, learning the leash life, and figuring out that trail snacks are basically part of the job description.

A new breed means a new personality on the trail, and we can’t wait to see who he becomes out there.

His first hike is coming soon… stay tuned. 👀🌲

Something seemed a little different about Pebbelina this morning.

Then I realized she had fully committed to her coffee habit.

Now, I understand loving coffee. Trust me.

But I’ve never put the entire container over my head to get the last few grounds.

Barney stopped by to assess the situation, the can was removed, and Pebbelina immediately returned to her wheelbarrow snack inspection as if nothing had happened.

No regrets.No lessons learned.Just Pebbelina

Sometimes I pause and think about all the reasons people have found their way to our trails.

We’ve celebrated birthdays, wedding anniversaries, family reunions, and bachelorette adventures.

We’ve been part of a prom proposal, a marriage proposal, and a teacher get-together on a ProD day.

We’ve also walked alongside guests celebrating the last day of cancer treatment, grief and other milestones that carry a little more weight.

Every booking has a story.

The goats never know whether you’re here to celebrate, reconnect, heal, or simply breathe for a while.

They show up exactly the same way every time.

Curious.
Present.
Unbothered.

And somehow, that’s exactly what so many of us need.

Thank you for trusting the goats and me with your memories, your milestones, and your moments in between.

It is an honour I never take for granted. ❤️ And yes I have had tears with guests in the forest as well!
