From Bradan Press:

Anne of Green Gables has been translated into over 30 languages, and is beloved the world over! Here are some of those translations on display at the birthplace of L.M. Montgomery in Prince Edward Island.

Yet Anne has never been translated into Scottish Gaelic, the language to which L.M. Montgomery and Prince Edward Island have the deepest ties, other than English.

This is an oversight explained by the systematic way that Gaels and Gaelic were erased from Maritime and Canadian history. Bradan Press hopes to help correct this by publishing the first-ever Scottish Gaelic translation of Anne of Green Gables!

Pledge by SUNDAY, JUNE 30 and help us to create a Gaelic Anne of Green Gables:

Help us create the first-ever Scottish Gaelic translation of Anne of Green Gables, the beloved Canadian classic by L.M. Montgomery

A (bhana-)chàirdean còire,

I would like to thank all my customers who have supported us over the years, many since we opened in 1998. Some of you have even visited us while in the province. Many of you have offered encouragement which kept us going even when the economic conditions were rough. I have continued, hoping things will eventually bounce back, fed by the encouragement of our loyal customers (you know who you are).

I have made the difficult decision to pursue other business options and am discontinuing our production of new publications and cancelling all backorders. I will be selling my interest in Gaelicbooks.com and our stock to anyone wishing to take it over. If anyone is interested they may contact me directly. I will be retaining the rights to Sìol publications for the time being.

Until then I will try to continue to serve the Gaelic community’s literary needs as best I can. However, I will not be restocking any new titles once they go out of stock or reprinting our own titles which have gone out of print including Eilean an Iomhais and Gaelic Folk and Hero Tales from Argyllshire.

It is difficult to walk away from something I have run so long but I hope someone else might be able to carry it in a way I am not able to. It has been a privilege to serve you all these years. I will continue to advocate for the Gaelic community as I have done over the past 24 years.

Le beannachdan Dhé/God bless,

Trueman

20th Title Goes to Print!

I have just sent out 20th print title (our 4th this year - Oidhchean Geamhraidh ’s a’ Ghàidhealtachd) to press - not including our two free e-books, our animated on-line book, calendars, CD, educational posters, Christmas cards, school learning package and t-shirts. It is still available for pre-order at a 20% discount for those who still wish to order it.

20% Discount on non-remaindered Sìol Book Titles until Sept. 20th

It is a bit of a milestone for us since we started publishing back in 2004 and no small feet to hit 20 books. As such I am offering all of our own books – those currently in print - on sale for 20% off (except An t-Oranaiche and O Cheapaich nan Craobh, which are already remaindered at $10 Can plus a shipping surcharge). A listing of our publications can be found here: http://gaelicbooks.com/siolbooks.html – 3 titles are out of print, though two (Leughadh agus Sgrìobhadh 1 & 2) can be reprinted on demand if requested. The other 15 (including Oidhchean Geamhraidh ’s a’ Ghàidhealtachd) can be ordered directly through the site. I will apply the discount on these titles at the time of processing.

Le gach deògh dhùrachd,

Trueman

A note to our US customers that I've overhauled the US pricing on the website (http://www.gaelicbooks.com) to reflect the current approximate exchange rates. Charges will still be issued in Canadian dollars (except in the case of mail orders where cheques may be issues in US funds based on the site's US pricing) but you should have a better idea of the value of the item in your own currency.
