Doe a deer, a female deer 🎶
3 stories about the Arctic North, from the point of view of The North Star, and my favourite part was definitely about deer playing in the snow🦌 🌙
Lately I’ve been re-reading Braiding Sweetgrass and it’s become more important to me to bring nature back to my work. But I never see anything about the land I was born on, and the time I was born in—winter!! I currently live in an area surrounded by beautiful ancient trees and lots of forest animals. The last couple years I (like a crazy person, yes) have made friends with a Great Blue Heron who has really made me reconsider many things about the land I’m on.
As a classical dancer the first thing we do is learn “namaskar”—thank you Mother Earth for without you there would be no dance, no audience, and nothing to keep me stable. She’s magnificent, the most intelligent and beautiful. She’s a spectrum of Amazon rainforest and icebergs… kinda like us!! Like a diaspora. So why not honour her winters just as much as her summers?
I could go on and on about our non-human kin but that’s for another time!
More to come later!
In the meantime THANK YOU TRINIDAD and for giving me the space to bring the cooling forces of the north down to you! Now let me enjoy your sun and waters ❤️
