Anne of Green Gables
Opens at Rosebud Theatre & School of the Arts June 5-Sep 5.

Music by Nancy Ford
Book and Lyrics by Gretchen Cryer

Home, a place Anne Shirley has always dreamt of finding. Though she isn’t the strapping farm hand her new family is expecting, her surprise arrival brings an unmatched abundance of spirit to the Cuthbert farm. Will Anne’s vibrant character, imaginative mind, and love of adventure win the hearts of Marilla, Matthew, Gilbert Blythe, and the citizens of Avonlea? Based on the novel by L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables is a musical story of love and belonging for all ages.

For Kulture Shake

If you love a variety of music from country to pop to rock, you will love this performance. Get ready for a musical extravaganza which honours a variety of artists who have had top hits and iconic songs over many generations.

The stage has the band situated in the back and the front has moveable stairs which the singers/dancers fully use. Digital panels in the background showcase the various performers as well as background graphics during performances.

Cast members included eight men and eight women with an accompanying four-piece band. Each singer/dancer took turns being either a lead vocalist or a backup singer, all dancing their way through the music of the Eagles, K.D. Lang, Shania Twain, Willie Nelson, Madonna, CCR, Tina Turner, Elvis, Cher, Linda Ronstadt, Beyonce and so many more.

The number of costume changes was amazing and each reflected the artist as well as the year that the song was a hit. It was fun to go back in time to long hair, mini skirts and flared jeans of the 60’s, and to the iconic costumes of Cher and Elvis.

Every performer truly gave it their all. Our favorites of the evening were the performance of “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston sung by Tayo Gbalajobi and pretty much anything sung by Lee Siegel. What voices! We also have to give kudos to Amanda De Freitas for her energy in the dance numbers. So much fun to watch. The only performance that didn’t resonate as much for us was Taylor Swift. After watching her Eros Tour, they didn’t quite capture her captivating and energetic stage presence.

In the end, we agreed that the evening was definitely entertaining, and we would highly recommend going.

Stage West Dinner Theatre always provides a wonderful evening out and, as usual, the buffet was extensive and delicious.

This fun filled and energetic show runs until June 21, 2026. Tickets can be purchased at www.stagewestcalgary.com.
