✨Introducing Da Young (Rachel) Lim✨
Renowned for her dynamic artistry and engaging performances, violinist Da Young (Rachel) Lim is an active chamber and orchestral musician and educator. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Stony Brook University under the tutelage of Jennifer Frautschi and Philip Setzer, where she is the recipient of a full-tuition scholarship.
A passionate chamber musician, Rachel is a founding member of the Varick Trio, formed in 2024, which presents programs throughout Long Island and New York, committed to using music as a tool for storytelling, healing, and cross-cultural engagement. Previously, she has also participated in Gilbert Kalish’s Piano Chamber Intensive Program as a member of a piano trio, as well as in Emerson String Quartet Institute as a member of a string quartet at Stony Brook.
Rachel has performed as a soloist with orchestras including the Allentown, Ambler, and Temple University Symphony Orchestras. As an orchestral musician, she served as concertmaster of the New England Conservatory Symphony and Philharmonia orchestras, principal second violinist of the Stony Brook Chamber Orchestra, and violinist of the Princeton Symphony Orchestra. She has also featured as a performing artist at festivals that include the Spoleto USA, Fontainebleau Music Program in France, Green Mountain Chamber Music, Tanglewood Music Center, Yellow Barn, and Music@Menlo.
Born in South Korea, Rachel immigrated to the United States at age twelve, and she holds degrees from Yale School of Music and New England Conservatory of Music. Her previous mentors include Soovin Kim, Syoko Aki, and Marc Rovetti.
