We’re kicking off Tala Tapes for 2026 with someone who truly keeps you guessing in the best way. 🖤
UK-born, Leeds-based, please welcome , serving multigenre global sounds.
Sim first touched the decks over a decade ago, inspired by her brother, getting a feel for mixing on his turntable long before she could step into clubs. Last year, she took the leap to play out publicly, facing the nerves and embracing the stage, and we’re gassed she did.
Her sound is a reflection of her journey: rooted in deep UK sounds like garage, grime, and UK funky, blended with old-school staples, newer global gems, bassy and percussive moments, South Asian mixes, R&B, house, and techno… it’s unpredictable, fluid, and full of personality.
Her sets are shaped by a lifetime of musical influences. Her siblings were her first introduction to non-mainstream sounds like R&B, Punjabi UK tracks, and underground gems, which continue to influence her sound today. Radio, especially Rinse FM, played a huge role during her teenage years, with DJs like Yasmin, Oneman, Skream, Annie Mac, Artwork, Plastician, and Maya Jama giving her early insight into garage, grime, house, and other UK sounds. Hours spent watching Boiler Room sessions further expanded her palette, highlighting dubstep, house, techno, early 2010s electronic sounds from Joy Orbison, Caribou, and Jamie xx. DJs like Skream, Annie Mac, Manara, Loefah, Chloe Robinson (aka Barely Legal), and Heidi shaped the way she moves through genres—seamlessly blending old favorites with new discoveries, UK roots with global sounds, and always keeping the energy alive.
Tala Tapes Vol. 19 (Girl Called Sim) is a journey you’ll want to take again and again. Show her some love and dive into the mix on SoundCloud! ☁️
