BAGAKA BA PELE HOSTS ELDERLY SERVICE DAY IN RAMOTSWA
On the 24th of April, the quiet village of Ramotswa in the Gamalete Constituency will come alive as thousands gather for a deeply meaningful occasion. All roads will lead to this historic village as the Bagaka Ba Pele Foundation hosts its much-anticipated Elderly Service Day, held under the theme “Honouring Our Pillars.”
This flagship initiative is dedicated to celebrating and uplifting the elderly citizens of Botswana—individuals whose lifelong contributions have helped shape families, communities, and the nation at large. The event is expected to attract over 3,000 elders from across the constituency and beyond, making it one of the largest gatherings of its kind in the region.
At the heart of the Elderly Service Day is a commitment to improving the well-being and dignity of senior citizens. Attendees will benefit from a wide range of free, essential medical services, including eye examinations, provision of optical glasses, blood pressure monitoring, and cancer awareness education. Additional health support services will also be offered, ensuring that elders receive both care and attention in a welcoming and respectful environment.
Beyond healthcare, the day is designed to be a celebration of life, legacy, and community. It creates a space where older generations are not only cared for but also honoured—recognised as the custodians of wisdom, culture, and history. The event reinforces the importance of intergenerational connection, reminding younger citizens of the invaluable role elders play in society.
Adding further significance to the occasion is the presence of distinguished guests and national leaders. The Guest of Honour, Ketlhalefile Motshegwa, Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, will headline the event alongside notable figures such as Boniface Mabeo, Kgosi Mosadi Seboko, and Ndiko Muzila, as well as other senior government officials. Their attendance underscores the national importance of honouring the elderly and supporting initiatives that promote their welfare.
The event also reflects the broader mission of the foundation, which extends into the media space through Bagaka Ba Pele TV. Produced by Dr Kelemogile Ramasu, the documentary series shines a spotlight on influential figures in Botswana’s entertainment industry—musicians, authors, athletes, and media personalities—who have made lasting contributions but have since stepped away from the public eye. By telling their stories, the show bridges generations, preserving cultural heritage while inspiring both young and old.
The Elderly Service Day and the television series together embody a shared vision: to honour the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future. As Ramotswa prepares to host this remarkable gathering, the message is clear—Botswana’s elders are not forgotten. They are cherished, respected, and rightfully celebrated as the pillars upon which society stands.
