The vast salt flats of the Makgadikgadi Pans in Botswana are among the most striking and unique landscapes in Africa. These ancient lakebeds stretch across thousands of square kilometres and create a surreal environment that changes dramatically with the seasons. Thousands of years ago, this area was covered by a massive inland lake, which eventually dried up, leaving behind vast white salt pans.
