Overthrust Winter Metal Mania Fest :
AFRICA’S MOST INTENSE METAL MUSIC PILGRIMAGE!!
Overthrust Winter Metal Mania Fest is one of the most intense and powerful metal festivals in Africa. One of its organizing members, Tshomarelo Mosaka aka VultureThrust, famously welcomes attendees each year with a powerful message:-
“Days approach fast because we must ride and march against poverty. Ladies and gentlemen, metallars and non-metallars, bikers and cowboys, religious and non-religious, straight, gay and le***an, rich and poor, politicians and non-politicians, I want you to know that Winter Metal Mania Fest is for everyone. We don’t care where you come from, we don’t care about your status because we do not discriminate. You are all welcome. In metal, we don’t judge, we treat everyone with the respect every human deserves. We are united by the love of metal music. Ladies and gentlemen, I welcome you to Overthrust Winter Metal Mania Festival!”
Recognized as one of the most intense music festivals in Botswana and Southern Africa, Winter Metal Mania is a unique, wild and highly entertaining experience. It carries a cinematic, almost “movie-like” atmosphere, metalheads and rockers (Marocko) dressed in leather, spikes, chains, cowboy boots and hats, riding motorbikes and even horses, performing gorilla walks and marching against poverty, all while immersed in thunderous live heavy metal music.
Despite the aggressive and brutal appearance often associated with rock and metal culture, this festival is one of the safest, most peaceful and most refreshing events to attend. The crowd, though energetic and intense, is respectful, welcoming and full of life. Crime is extremely rare, virtually nonexistent, with lost items often returned through stage announcements. The environment is filled with excitement, laughter, wild moments and unforgettable memories that leave a lasting impression on every attendee.
Beyond entertainment, Winter Metal Mania is also a powerful tourist attraction and economic booster. It draws large crowds from across the globe, benefiting local accommodation, food vendors and small businesses. More importantly, the festival stands as a symbol of unity. It brings together people of different nations, cultures and backgrounds under one roof to promote cooperation, cultural exchange and charity. Through music, it creates a shared mission, raising funds for meaningful causes while celebrating diversity and community. And of course, in true metalhead spirit, there’s always humor in the madness, metalheads will drink like fish and smoke like chimneys, a loud and proud reality of Winter Mania Fest, where beer flows freely and water is “saved” for another day!
