Mojo Park - A Documentary Film?

Bhutan's live music scene was virtually non-existent. There were no venues dedicated to live performances, no platforms for singers and bands to jam or showcase their talents. Back then, gigging wasn’t considered a profession in Bhutan, and making a living as a musician was a distant dream for many. Despite the undeniable passion for music among Bhutanese youth, there was no space for it to flourish.

That all changed in 2011 with the advent of Mojo Park—a live music club born out of the desire to give Bhutan’s musicians a place to call their own. It wasn’t just about performances; it was about creating a vibrant space where local and visiting musicians could gather, collaborate, and inspire each other. Mojo Park was built to be more than just a stage—it was built to nurture the budding live music scene in Bhutan.

In its early days, Mojo Park faced significant challenges. With so few bands around, it was difficult to even fill two hours of live music on weekends. Musicians and singers had to be found, sometimes brought together from different parts of the country, and encouraged to practice just so they could put on a show. Instruments were provided, and the dedication of these early musicians laid the foundation for what would become a flourishing live music scene.

As time passed, Mojo Park evolved. More musicians were inspired to form bands, and many of the young talents who first performed there went on to become fixtures in Bhutan's music community. While some moved on to pursue other opportunities, others remained and continue to rock the stage.

Mojo Park didn’t just provide a space for live music—it helped transform the culture of music in Bhutan. What was once seen as a mere hobby became a viable profession, with many singers and bands now making a living from performing. The success of Mojo Park also sparked a wave of inspiration, leading to the creation of new live music venues throughout the country.

Despite the early struggles, Mojo Park stands as a testament to the power of community, perseverance, and passion for music.
