In June 2026, SAARC Cultural Centre officially awarded its prestigious documentary production grant to the Department of Culture and Dzongkha Development under the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Royal Government of Bhutan. A Comprehensive Review committee meeting was held with Ms. Tshering Choki, Deputy Chief Program Officer, Department of Culture and Dzongkha Development to finalise the commencement and strategic direction of the film. Funded under the flagship regional initiative, "Digital Documentation of South Asian Handicrafts and Intangible Heritage in South Asia," this project will comprehensively focus on the vibrant Himalayan landscapes and the sacred arts of Bhutan.

The Salhang Tendrel (Groundbreaking Ceremony) for the Bhutan Temple Complex Construction in Lumbini, Nepal—the sacred birthplace of Lord Buddha—was successfully conducted today under the auspices of His Eminence the Dorji Lopen Rinpoche.

The ceremony was graced by the Hon'ble Minister for Home Affairs of the Royal Government of Bhutan, the Hon'ble Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation of Nepal, senior government officials, and distinguished guests from both countries.

The project will be implemented by the Department of Culture and Dzongkha Development (DCDD) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), Royal Government of Bhutan.
