World Poetry 2026 Bahamas Celebration.

On March 23, 2026, World Poetry Day was observed with a special assembly hosted at A.F. Adderley Junior High School. World Poetry Day, celebrated globally on March 21st, honours the creativity, beauty and resilience of poetic expression.

Senior Under Secretary June Collie, Ministry of Education and Technical and Vocational Training brought remarks on behalf of the Education Minister and recited a poem that she wrote entitled "Stand"

STAND by June Collie

A wise man told me the other day
That I could be the one to lead the way
That I could overcome the hurt inside
And help the others who haven't tried

He questioned me about my courage
And told me how to mend the damage
He made me ponder who I am
And had me believing that perhaps I can

He said that if I had what it took to stand
I can reach the ones who need a hand
If I could be the outcast and survive the night
Tomorrow will bring the wondrous light

He dared me to stand for what is right
No matter who else is in the fight
He said that it's important that I understand
That I should pick a spot and stand
