We have lived in the historic neighborhood of the Candeal since 1998 and have been hosting students and travelers for the last 10 years. Once a quilombo, Candeal is
a safe and welcoming community with a rich tradition of music and community activism. Here you can find a neighborhood that actively participates in the well-being of all its members through many forms including two music schools, four community centers, and a woman's co-op. This is a great place for those who are looking for total cultural immersion, who love music, and want to participate in something greater than themselves.
